Game On: Yahoo Buzz Opens To Public

August 19, 2008

Yahoo Buzz has been an interesting concept as a mainstream rival to digg. Digg started as a niche social bookmarking site for tech geeks and as it got more popular it also started catching more heat. Why? The gamers.

Because hitting the front page of Digg sends SOOOO much traffic to any 1 given website, acheiving a front page story is quite valuable for webmasters. Not only for the traffic itself but perhaps more importantly, for the exposure and backlinks it drives. Web marketers made “Gaming Digg” part of their career and the site continues to suffer because of it.

Will Yahoo Buzz hit the same snag? According to Tech Crunch, it is opening to the public tonight. That’s right… ANYone will be able to submit stories to Yahoo Buzz. Including us web marketers. And trust me when I tell you that comparing the amount of traffic a Front Page Digg story will net you compared to a front page Yahoo story is like comparing a pair of binoculars to the Hubble Space telescope.

So let the games begin- Who will be the first folks to effectively game Yahoo Buzz? Whoever does will have a lot to gain… including my friendship if they share their secrets with you know who. Teehee.
